No, she will not. I actually had envisioned her as an RO at first, but I found I just couldn’t write her well. With the possibility of being a friend, a rival, a love interest and/or a sibling, she became too much of a blank slate, and ended up not being much of anything. I really wanted to explore sibling dynamics with her so I abandoned the idea of an RO and focused on that, and then her personality really took shape for me.
I also found that having 4 ROs was the perfect amount for me. Any more would be too difficult to write.

I’m honestly surprised at the amount of love I’ve seen for Tellus, but that just means I succeeded in hitting the right tone. I know this first chapter was an emotional one, but there’s plenty of action and humor in store for you, too!

I do have a question though. I understand hiding our voice by pretending to be mute, but why are we also pretending to be deaf? Is it bc we have better sense of hearing and we'd give it away accidentally?
being just mute might be a little too hard to believe and likely would be seen as an obvious tactic to not answer questions. being deaf and mute as a result of being deaf is far more believable. just my thoughts!
Yep, this is it exactly. Pretending to be deaf on top of being mute is like an extra precaution, you’re basically covering all bases. It’s well known that the Iredicci have excellent hearing, so say someone notices you can hear a noise from far away, but you don’t speak, it will raise suspicions.
It's likely in part due to it being a little late, but the aftershock of the burning made me tear up. It came as such a contrast with the earlier writing while still being written with such a similar sensitivity. So I didn't have time to process it, paired with the good imagery and pacing - I really did feel slightly overwhelmed. Very nice start
